The collaborative event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 12 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg, according to event officials.

Doors to the popular dance will open at 7 p.m., welcoming high school and community college students in the area who want to proudly attend prom.

A live DJ will spin popular music for attendees who can dance the night away without fear and munch on delicious catering from Botanero's restaurant.

The event was proudly sponsored by direct donations as well as by Visa, which returns as a platinum-level sponsor.

The Pride Prom was created by Janine Rauscher in 2016 after noticing the climate at nearby schools, giving students an open place to be themselves as an alternative to the traditional dance.

Similar events were already being held throughout the area in Baltimore and Virginia but had not yet occurred in Montgomery County.

"We started this event on a shoestring budget, with most of the financial support coming from a small few, including myself," says Rauscher, "but I believed in what we were doing and knew we just needed to get it up and running and then others would join in support."

Students may purchase their tickets at any time before the event for $15 by clicking here.

Additionally, any individual, company, or organization willing to make either a financial or resource donation may find more information at www.mocopridecenter.org/prideprom
